Stephanie Dawson-Cosser

CHOICE CHILD CARE was established by its owner, Stephanie Dawson-Cosser, in 1995.
Stephanie graduated from the world famous Norland Nursery Training College (England) in 1979 with the Nursery Nursing Examination Board diploma (NNEB), the Royal Society of Health diploma for nursery nurses (RSH) and the NORLAND DIPLOMA (awarded after successful completion of an internship in hospital and family care). Since settling in South Africa, she has achieved a Diploma in Small Business Management (Damelin), a certificate in Human Resource Management (Varsity College) and a Certificate in Lay Counselling (UNISA). She has attended numerous courses on labour law and employment contracts, She has been awarded a certificate as an accredited assessor for Early Childhood Development (ECD) and was recently (2009) certified as an NLP Practitioner. She will complete her Diploma in Life Coaching through Inner Life Skills coaching International in 2011. Stephanie is a member of COMENSA (Coaches and Mentors of South Africa). Fueling her interest in on-going learning, she has recently attended workshops in Community Building (2011) based on Peter Block's book of the same name and Time to Think (2011)based on Nancy Klein's wonderful work. Both of these providing experiential learning in communication and relationship building.
Since 1980 Stephanie has worked in a wide range of child care situations in the UK, Middle East, Europe, USA and South Africa. In these countries, she has held the position of professional nanny, nursery school teacher, housemother to emotionally disturbed children, teacher to handicapped children, and child care training college lecturer, where she developed curricula for the infant and 0 - 3 in child care, behaviour management, and nutrition.
Her interest in all aspects of child care has opened up opportunites for Stephanie to consult to NGO's restructuring children's homes to comply with the Child Care Act of 2005 and subsequent updates. She has been affiliated to Christ Church Care Home in Berea, Johannesburg (2006/7) and more recently evaluating Lerato Love Home in Marlboro, Johannesburg (2009) on behalf of Rays of Hope (NPO of Rosebank Union Church) prior to the NPO taking over the management of the home in November 2010 Since the new management of the home it has been renamed Ikhaya Lomusa (House of Grace) and the home is presently going through a complete overhaul of infrastructure, staffing, and service provision to the community of Alexandra. Stephanie is instrumental in the on-going changes in the home. In her personal capacity, as a parent of four (including twins), as a single parent for eight years, and now as part of a blended family in which she and her husband parent four teenagers and two young adults all living at home, she has a wealth of first-hand parenting and life experience to draw upon which feeds into her professional career.
